This
Advanced Certificate course presents a carefully designed study in Trauma Counselling for
those who already have a basic knowledge of Counselling Skills. Counselling Skills for Major Incidents is a post-qualified
level course and is not an entry level programme. Participants should have already
undertaken a foundation course in counselling. The skills learned on this course are
intended for use only within the context of established Codes of Practice for Counsellors
and with appropriate supervision and support.
Who is the course designed for?
The following groups are identified because of
their usual involvement with clients in need of skilled support after Traumatic
Incidents.:
Counsellors and Carers involved in
Trauma and Disaster Teams, Private Practice, Medical Practices, Victim Support and Aid
Workers.
Health Professionals who receive
clients who have been involved in traumatising incidents including: Psychiatrists,
Psychologists, Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists.
Welfare Officers who may be called
upon to assist after a traumatising incident. These will include those working in
Personnel Management, the Police Services, Ambulance Services, Para-medics, Fire Services,
Prison Services, the Armed Forces, leaders of Youth Organisations and Managers within
transport companies such as airports, airlines, train and bus networks and ferry
companies.
Care Professionals whose clients
may have been affected by Post-traumatic Stress including Social Workers, Clergy and
Chaplains, Probation Officers and Health Visitors.
The course
will:
- 1. Outline the main reposonses to PTSD and CISD
- 2. Integrate the use of Counselling Skills with responses to
trauma
- 3. Facilitate personal development through the use of case
studies
- 4. Provide tutor assessment and feedback through 10 written assignments
