Diploma in Addiction Counselling

Addiction counselling is one of the fastest growing counselling services in the UK.  This is your opportunity to gain a qualification that will enhance your career and counselling
practice. You will be able to add ‘Addiction Counselling’ to your CV and/or counselling practice.

This Diploma course has two modules:
    Module 1: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
    Module 2:  Addiction Counselling

Module 1 will give you a solid foundation to build your addiction counselling studies on.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is based on the premise that our interpretation of an event is crucial in determining how we feel and react.  Where beliefs and thought patterns are negative or unrealistic, a variety of problems may occur leading to possible emotional disorders.  CBT aims to alleviate emotional distress. CBT has proved to be very effective in treating clients who have addiction issues.

Module 2—Addiction Counselling:

  1. The nature of addictions.
  2. Drug & alcohol addiction.
  3. Gambling addiction.
  4. Food and spending addictions.
  5. Sexual addiction.
  6. Internet Addiction.
  7. Using CBT to treat addictions.
  8. CBT in action - case studies.
  9. Addiction counselling.
  10. Addiction referral networks and resources.

The diploma course includes current research, lists of textbooks and websites.  Dynamic graphics and photos fully illustrate the advanced skills used in addiction counselling.

The course consists of two modules, 20 lessons, 10 assignments, and a textbook.

Upon successful completion of the two modules you will be awarded the Diploma in      Addiction Counselling.

This diploma course will be of specific interest to those of you who are
working in the Healthcare professions.  It will also be relevant to people in
social work areas, teachers, those of you in pastoral work and mature
students.

The advanced module, containing 10 lessons, deals with various forms of
addiction and outlines the warning signs of each; in each case treatment options are explained.  You will receive detailed guidelines on advanced counselling skills.
